Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency Programs
The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is designed to assist families receiving rental assistance through the Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) programs become self reliant and economically self-sufficient within five (5) years. This assistance is provided in the form of coordinated supportive services, education, job training, job placement, personal development, and life management skills.
All FSS candidates must complete the life skills sessions in the Family Self-Sufficiency Orientation Program. Upon admission to the program a needs assessment is done. With the assistance of a FSS Case Manager an Individual Training and Service Plan is completed. The participant must also sign a Contract of Participation making a commitment to become self reliant and economically independent within five (5) years.
Family Self-Sufficiency Program Goals
• To assist public housing and housing choice voucher residents to move toward self-sufficiency.
• Increase the number of residents entering and graduating from Adult Basic education and other job training programs.
• Provide residents with more opportunities to learn about computers and increasing computer literacy.
• Strengthen and develop a strong work ethic in residents.
Economic development at HACFM is more than putting up new buildings. It's also about investing in people.
Our goal at the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers (HACFM) is to educate our families through quarterly Life Skills Education Sessions and the Keeping In Touch Newsletter.
Case management is an essential part of the FSS program. This area of importance allows your case manager or coordinator to work with you one-on-one to establish goals that are attainable and ensure you're successful in all that you do.
