The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers (HACFM) offers the Life Skills Education and Homebuyers Education workshops to educate our families and prepare them to become self-reliant.
The Life Skills Education has four sessions, the first session is an overview of the Family Self-Sufficiency program, the second session is presented on Achieving and Settings Goals, the third session is to introduce Career Goals, how to increase wages and change in career paths and/or gain employment, the final session Money Management assists the families with creating and maintaining a basic budget.
After a family has completed all four sessions they determine if they wish to pursue enrollment into the Family Self-Sufficiency Program and to make strides in becoming self-sufficient. The Life Skills Education classes are required and must be completed before enrolling into the FSS Program. In addition a Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) participant must enroll into the FSS Program at least one year prior to submitting an application for the Homeownership Voucher Program. The Homebuyers Education Workshop is another educational source the HACFM offers to its residents and the community to promote affordable housing. The Homebuyers Education Workshop has a total of eight sessions, pre-purchasing and post-purchasing educational classes. All sessions must be completed to receive a certificate of completion.
