Hurricane Ian Disaster Recovery Projects
On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall as a strong Category 4 hurricane with top wind speeds of 150 mph. Lee County received $1.1 billion in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds to address remaining needs created by Hurricane Ian’s destruction.
HACFM is the recipient of CDBG-DR funds and are implementing the following affordable housing rehabilitation and new construction project.

Strayhorn Place (Formerly 1935 Lafayette)
A four-story, elevated, 82-unit Senior Affordable Housing Community to serve seniors aged 62 and older under the 50% AMI for Lee County. There will be an on-site gym, a small health clinic and visiting nurses’ office, salon, business center and game room, a movie theater and information center.

Legacy Point (Formerly Southward Village)
The Southward Village CNI Phase 2 project is the second phase of development for the Greater Dunbar Initiative CNI program, and the first phase located on the site of the former Southward Village public housing development in Fort Myers, Florida. The project will include construction of 151 units of mixed income housing for families. The proposed project will also include a centralized lake designed to store stormwater runoff. Surrounding the lake will be a walking trail, a clubhouse with community room, fitness center, and management offices.

Arwyn (Formerly Horizons Apartments)
The Arwyn is the comprehensive redevelopment of the former Horizon apartments. The redevelopment plan involves the demolition of the existing 14 residential structures to make way for a new 230-unit affordable housing complex. The new development will feature 3 residential buildings and a clubhouse. Residents will have access to a wide range of amenities. Community-serving features include a clubhouse with a gathering room and kitchen, fitness and yoga rooms, resident support spaces (offices, conference, study, maintenance, package, and storage rooms), bathrooms, and free Wi-Fi. Each residential unit and building will have in-unit washer/dryer, an elevator, and trash/recycling room on every floor. Outdoor amenities will include open green space with walkways, a dog park, playground, benches, grill areas, and shaded seating.
